The last puzzle piece

KNOCK KNOCK0

Heaven and Dominic stayed in that position with their foreheads against each other. Their hands were cupping each other's faces, eyes closed, inhaling each other's breaths until a knock came from outside the door.

Dominic slowly reopened his eyes, drawing his head back. "I told Dane not to interrupt us unless it's important."

"I don't think that's Mr. Zhang." Dominic slowly set his eyes back to his wife. "That's Bear."

"How did you know it's him?"

"I just… know?" Heaven shrugged and then squeezed Dominic's hand. "Darling, can you give me and Mr. Cruel a moment to talk?"

"Why?" A frown instantly appeared on his face. "What do you need to talk to him that you can't say in front of me?"

Her brows rose at his question before realization dawned on Dominic.

"I'm… sorry." He sighed. "I didn't mean to pry, nor I was in any way being suspicious of Mr. Cruel. I was just…"

"It's fine, Dom. With what happened last night, I understand you want to stay." Heaven let out a sigh as she gazed at her husband with slight helplessness. "But I just want to talk to Mr. Cruel. After all, I'm sure he is blaming himself as well. He's the one with me, but I insisted on him leaving me alone."

"It's not his fault, but he's been my bodyguard ever since you hired him," she added. "So… I think it's only necessary if he reports to me. If you want to stay, then you stay. However, I think he will feel less pressured if you're not around."

"It's okay, you can have time with him." Dominic smiled in understanding. "I was just being a little paranoid, but I'll leave you two alone."

Dominic leaned forward, planting a kiss on her cheek. He didn't idle anymore, pushing himself away from the bed and opening the door. The second he did, he slowly raised his head at the man standing outside.

"What happened to you?" Dominic blurted out, as he had never seen the old man look so haggard and beaten.

"I had a fight." Bear lowered his head. "I'm sorry about last night, Mr. Zhu. I should've been with her and protecting her. If only I have, she…"

"I would've never forgiven you if we are in a funeral home instead of here." Dominic waved dismissively. "I assumed you came because you already heard the news?"

"Yes." Bear kept his eyes low just to not look down on Dominic. "However, if she's still resting —"

"It's fine." Another sigh escaped Dominic's nostril, closing the door behind him as he stepped out. "She's inside and had been waiting for you. But I want to remind you she's still recovering, so don't make her furious."

"Yes, I understand." Bear stepped aside to give way to Dominic.

Dominic glanced at Bear from head to toe once and said, "Get your wounds dressed up in the emergency once you finished your business with her," before he walked away to settle some matters with Dane.

Bear stayed in the same spot, peeking up to see Dominic walking through the hallway. When the latter was in the distance, he turned his head at the door beside him.

'Did she really survive last night?' he wondered, telling himself not to have too much hope.

Heaven was pronounced dead last night and even when he wasn't present at that time, he had seen her head injury. It was a fatal blow that even if she was rushed to the hospital immediately, she would still be in critical condition.

Perhaps her heart started beating again. Therefore, she was now in a coma. Who knew? People might just be messing with him.

His thoughts grew more and more negative as he reached for the knob, opening the door ever so slowly. Time slowed down for him as his heart thudded against his chest, almost as if it was trying to break free from his ribcage.

All the negativity and heart thudding disappeared as soon as he caught the person reclining on the bed. Heaven had her head turned to the other side, and when she turned in his direction, the subtle smile on her face froze him on the spot.

"Boss," he whispered in relief, dragging his feet toward her. "Are you really…"

Bear stopped beside the bed, eyes shaking as he scanned her beautiful face. Tears instantly brimmed his eyes, running down his bruised face. His hand trembled as he raised it, wanting to touch her, only to stop mid-air.

"I'm alive, Bear." Heaven reached for his trembling hand with both her hands, guiding it to her face. "Did I worry you?"

Yes. He was scared to the core. But those words didn't successfully leave his mouth.

"I probably did, huh?" she chuckled gently, letting his cold hand rest on her cheek. "I'm sorry for worrying you, Bear."

Bear closed his eyes as he broke down to his knees. He rested his arms on the bed that only reached his lower chest, even with him kneeling. There were no words said, crying through his gritted teeth.

Meanwhile, Heaven simply gazed at him with a pair of soft eyes. There were many words of comfort to tell him, but nothing managed to escape her mouth.

"I was worried," she whispered after a prolonged silence. "Aside from Dom and Basti, I was terrified of what you would do once I died again. And a part of me was regretful for telling you that I am who I am."

"But Bear, last night wasn't so bad," she continued, watching Bear raise his head to her. The side of her mouth curled, resembling a wicked smirk. "I now have full control of this body."

"Huh?" Bear wiped his eyes with the back of his fist. "What do you mean?"

Her smirk stretched, almost like the one Bear would see plastered on Hera's face after a worthy victory. "What I mean is, I can break your limbs if I wanted to without a problem."

"???"

Heaven slowly peeled her gaze from him, setting them on her other free hand. She flexed her fingers, smiling in satisfaction.

"Heaven Liu already reunited with her dad after possessing Paula. I'm itching… my blood is boiling so much with this energy filling me." She clasped her hand as she faced him again. "I don't think I need to relearn Hera's techniques anymore, Bear."

"Now… I can finally say I'm back."

A glint flickered across her eyes as the slight discomfort she had grown used to when she woke up in Heaven Liu's body disappeared. It was as though her soul truly became one with this body, reclaiming the physical skills Hera could do, but Heaven's body couldn't.
