[Bonus chapter]Ending the contract
Meanwhile...0
Yawn...
Gray glanced to his side, only to see Tiger yawning. They were guarding the end turn of the hallway, making sure no one could enter the ward Heaven was in, aside from the authorized people and the Zhu family.
"I thought you were going to send your resignation?" asked Gray, curious. "You just left early last night. I thought you won't come back today."
"Well, I changed my mind." Tiger shrugged, standing in his spot upright, which was the complete opposite of his usual laziness since being hired. He cocked his head back, casting his colleague a knowing look.
"It's not every day you get to have a boss that rises from the dead," he remarked. "So, I might stay."
Gray narrowed his eyes suspiciously, detecting the slight difference in Tiger's attitude. "What are you planning?"
"Hmm?"
"Tiger, we've worked together on many missions in the past. So, if there is someone who knows you better, that's me," explained Gray in a matter-of-factly tone. "I'm telling you. If what's in your mind is not good, you shouldn't go for it. The old man will break your neck."
"If he can."
"So, are you telling me there's another reason you decided to stick around?"
"I'm not lying when I said I'm staying because of the mystery last night." Tiger leaned his back against the wall, shoving his hand inside his pockets. "But yes, I have another reason."
"What is it?"
"Should I tell you?" he cast Gray a languid side-eye. "But how can I trust you won't snitch on me? Just like how you snitched on the clown?"
Gray shrugged. "Joker has it coming."
"Well... make sense." Tiger rocked his head in understanding as he also didn't have that great rapport with Joker.
Joker was a clown, after all. The only person he listened to was Hera, just like Tiger and Moose. Without Hera in their lives, their life decisions were akin to ticking time bombs, waiting for it to detonate and blow them into pieces.
"Hmm..." Tiger hummed a long tune, narrowing his eyes at the hallway leading to the private ward. "I saw some interesting people last night."
"Interesting people? Who?"
"Just some motherfuckers who can kill Dominic Zhu."
Deep lines appeared between Gray's brows, looking at the smirk turning up on Tiger's face. The latter's eyes glinted in intrigue and malice.
"Is the boss... in danger?"
"No..." Tiger shifted his gaze to Gray. "Not yet."
"So his life will be?"
"Who knows? Maybe? Maybe not? Doesn't matter. I'm here." Tiger shrugged, smiling in excitement, as if he knew things would be about to go down in the distant future. "I'll stick around until then."
Gray assessed Tiger from head to toe, a little suspicious of his colleague's remarks. Or rather, he couldn't help but doubt Tiger's real intentions. Tiger was no hero, and the latter was always proud of staying in his villain arc. He was the type who didn't care about others; someone Hera picked up from the depths of hell of no redemption and made him her most vicious hellhound.
In other words, it was so out of Tiger's character to stay just because he knew Dominic might be in danger in the future. It would be foolish to even consider Tiger wanted to protect Dominic out of the goodness of his heart.
That was not the Tiger Gray knew and not the Tiger he would become. There was no redemption for this guy. If anything, what Tiger deserved was pure retribution.
"As long as it's within my morals, I'll pretend I don't know a thing," Gray said with a shallow breath, peeling his eyes from his colleague to the hallway they were guarding. "I wonder if the old man killed the clown."
"I doubt."
"How did you say so?"
"Because Bernard will always be Bernard. He won't kill him just because he knew that's not what Hera wanted."
"Make sense." Gray rocked his head, casting Tiger a quick look.
Tiger already looked away from the hallway, staring at the wall before them as if he had some things in his wicked mind. The corner of Tiger's mouth then hooked, making Gray wonder.
What did Tiger see last night? Or rather, who?

Somewhere in a private jet, Primo read the news through his tablet. The side of his mouth was curled up into an amused smirk at the explosive headlines that even the biggest media outlet was writing an article about.
[ACTRESS PAULA SHEN ATTEMPTED MURDER!]
[PAULA SHEN ABUSING DRUGS?]
[ACTRESS PAULA SHEN NOW IN THE POLICE'S CUSTODY FOR ABUSE OF DRUGS AND ATTEMPTED MURDER]
[WAS IT GUILT? REASONS PAULA SHEN SURRENDERED FOR HER CRIME!]
Everything was about Paula Shen. Paula Shen this, Paula Shen that. What a stupid girl. Just when Primo thought Paula had grown interesting, it turned out she was just as stupid as ever. She just wasted the help Primo had given her that gave her a chance to walk away free.
"I'm happy for her, though," said Primo, amused at the trending topic. "She finally got the fame she wanted."
"Boss."
Primo peeled his gaze from the table in his hand, setting them on the person standing in the aisle. Elmo, his righthand man, was holding a phone with both his hands.
"The Joker is on the line," said Elmo, making Primo glance at the phone in his hand.
"Well, I wonder what I owe you that you will contact me…" Primo took the phone ever so slowly and put it in front of his ear. "... yes, Mr. Joker? What a surprise! I didn't think you will ever contact me first."
Primo raised his brows as he glanced at the phone when the only sound he heard was deep breaths.
"Are you ejaculating? Just so you know, I'm not interested in men," he humored. "Though I might try anal penetration in the future if I feel extremely adventurous enough. Not saying I'm interested in you, though."
"This is the last."
Primo furrowed his brows at the heavy breaths, along with the warning.
"I'm ending my contract — ugh… damn it!" Joker winced in pain, hanging upside down from the pillar of the rooftop of the building he was staying in. His face was red, his other hand clinging to the slight crook on the building's wall as he tried to curl his body so his blood would come down to his head.
"You should stop poking that Dominic Zhu," he said, assuming Bear and everyone was now working for Dominic. "He got the animal kingdom in his lair. Fucking old man! How dare he leave me hanging literally…"
Joker's voice sounded distant before the line suddenly ended. Primo looked at his phone, blinking, confused.
"Did he say he'll end our contract?" A frown overtook Primo's face, tossing the phone, which Elmo caught on time. "Joker ended our contract. What a shame. Such talent, but now gone to waste. Kill him."
Elmo lowered his head, and without saying a word, walked away to execute Primo's orders.
