[Bonus chapter]Dominic's new interest and Heaven's new worry
After rounds and rounds of target shooting, the group decided to rest and eat. Dominic, Heaven, and Axel barely spent any time with their friends. Although their friends didn't take it to heart, already used to Dominic's personality, they somewhat felt a bit used.1
Did Dominic use them just so he could spend a day with his wife?
Impossible.
"Yum!" Axel happily rubbed his hands as the staff served dishes to their table. However, they weren't only serving foods and dishes prepared by the in-house chefs, but also food containers that Dominic and Heaven brought.
William and Jeremy looked at each other, sitting across from Axel at this round, wide table. Both bore this conflicted look, keeping in mind that Dominic brought these foods Axel was happily waiting to be served.
"Dominic, don't tell me your wife cooks these foods?" Breaking the building silence and awkwardness, Kaiden Wang spoke.
"Yes. She wanted to leave a good impression on my friends." Dominic nodded. His tone gave off this wide distance as if he wasn't talking to one of his friends. "Although I told her not to bother, she insisted."
"I know it's not much, but I hope you will try them," Heaven chimed in politely.
"Even if they don't like it, doesn't matter. I'll take home everything!" Axel wiggled his brows, not expecting much from these spoiled brats.
"Seeing how excited the second young master was, I'm honored to eat the young madam's cooking." Kaiden smiled amicably, motioning the staff to hand him one of the food containers. "Though I prefer it to be served on a plate, please."
"Yes, Sir Wang."
"Thank you." Kaiden smiled in satisfaction, setting his eyes back to the lovely couple.
"I'll take one of her cooking as well," said Ivy Wei, earning Heaven's and William's attention. She ignored William's gaze and looked at Heaven. "Although we've met a few times before, I never tasted your cooking. Besides, it's been a while since I ate anything home-cooked, so I appreciate this very much."
"Thank you," Heaven smiled back at Ivy, matching the woman's energy just because she was in a great mood. 'Maybe she isn't as bad as what the original Heaven thought she was. After all, even her husband is bad to her.'
"Me too." William cleared his throat. "Thank you for thinking about us… Heaven? Can I call you that? Since you're our dearest Dominic's wife."
"Whatever makes you happy, I don't mind." Heaven chuckled and then turned her head to Dominic, who was sitting beside her. Dominic nodded at her with a smile before facing his friends.
"Thank you for inviting us," he expressed formally. "I hope you will like what my wife prepared for you."
"Ey… if you stress it like that, we'll surely have no choice but to eat it." Jeremy Li humored and then shrugged. "But well, thank you everyone for coming to this small gathering. I am pleased to finally meet the mysterious woman behind Dominic Zhu. Thank you for bringing us some dishes."
"You're welcome."
"Very well." Jeremy Li, the host of today's gathering, clapped. "Let's dig in."
Since Dominic's wife made an effort to bring them food, all of them ignored the ones the in-house chefs preferred for them. Although the staff transferred the food to serving plates. Except for Axel, everyone used plates to enjoy lunch.
"Mhm!" Kaiden Wang's brows rose, nodding in amusement. His pupils slightly dilated, casting Heaven a look. "This is nice."
"It is." Ivy Wei nodded while chewing, flashing Heaven a smile. "I'm really glad now that you came."
"Thanks." Heaven's cheek turned pinkish, looking at Dominic, who looked like he was even more proud than her.
"My sis' cooking is the best, you know?" Axel bragged with his mouth still full. "She always cooks for us, and to be honest, I never ate any fast food for months now."
"Heh. No wonder you gained a bit of weight."
Axel shrugged indifferently. "I'm proud." He then cast Heaven a knowing look, making the latter smile.
Heaven was not nervous about meeting her husband's friends, but she liked how Dominic and Axel were protective of her. Their actions toward her suggested their friends should be cautious about what they tell Heaven.
Everyone ate in peace, conversing every once in a while, but nothing was worthy of attention. Until Kaiden Wang spoke.
"Anyway, about the diamond venture…" Kaiden Wang wiped the corner of his mouth with a white cloth, eyes on Dominic. "I don't think people like the idea of having you in it, Dom."
Heaven snapped her eyes at the man across from them, but then Axel chimed in.
"Why would they like it?" Axel scoffed. "There's already enough in the market, so the Lyon Group entering the market only means they get a lesser piece of the pie."
"You're venturing into the diamond business?" Heaven blurted out, looking at Dominic with genuine wonder in her eyes. This was the first time she was hearing about it.
"Still planning to." Dominic smiled. "I'm just taking an interest in it for now, but Kaiden's family is already in the business. So, he's teaching me how to get myself around it."
"Oh…" Heaven rocked her head, moving her eyes to Ivy when the latter spoke.
"Dominic still needs a lot to learn about the business. It's one of the reasons I came back because we might be doing this business venture together," she said with a friendly smile. "Don't worry, Heaven. I'm sure Dominic already plans on telling you about this."
"I don't, actually."
Heaven blinked, asking herself if she heard her husband correctly. Not just Heaven, but everyone looked at Dominic with curiosity. His brows rose innocently as he looked back at Heaven.
"Did I say something wrong?" he asked, only to hear Kaiden Wang burst out of laughter.
"If you say it like that, Heaven might misunderstand." Kaiden shook his head, setting his attention to Heaven. "I'm surprised and actually in awe of your patience, considering Dominic's personality. However, he has a reason for taking an interest in this business that I cannot tell."
Kaiden then cast Ivy a look. "Miss Wei had shown interest in it and had a few contacts, so she'll be a great addition to this business venture. Even though my family has been in this industry, there were mines we don't dare touch yet. Miss Wei made acquaintances with them."
"Ahh…" Heaven rocked her head in understanding, even though she wasn't listening to the unnecessary comments. After all, she wasn't curious as to why Dominic hadn't mentioned it or his reason for not having the plan to tell her soon.
The only reason this conversation piqued her interest was that… the diamond business was a hobby in the past. Moreover, this business might be small, but it was plagued with dangers.
"Well, I wish you all good luck in this venture." Heaven smiled, receiving a kind smile in return.
"Thank you, Heaven," said Kaiden, while Dominic cast his wife a proud look.
And just like that, they hopped to another topic. This time, however, most of the topics were stories they had in the past. Unbeknownst to them, even if Heaven was laughing with them, her mind was drifting to the previous topic regarding her husband's interest in this new business.
