Who in the world?
This was not the first time the current Heaven would be in the old residence. She came here at that time when Grandma Zhu fainted at the news of her grandson's divorce. 1
Oh, that timely coincidence.
If Grandma Zhu didn't faint at that time, Dominic and Heaven would've probably divorced. After all, that time, the current Heaven was already determined to let her son and husband go. They deserved a life free from someone like her, considering how bad the real Heaven was to them and how unholy the new soul was.
Even when the original Heaven turned into a spirit, it was clear she still didn't have any plan of being a family with Dominic and Sebastian. Despite that, the current Heaven Liu — Hera — was glad things didn't go as planned before. She nearly missed the best life she could ever get in this lifetime.
"That's a lot of cars... it's like a car show," she humored as they entered the driveway of the old residence, glancing at the cars parked nearby. "Is everyone here?"
"Mhm." Dominic slowed down as he stretched his neck, finding a convenient spot for him to park. "If Grandma hosts it, it's almost mandatory to attend."
"She isn't mad about last time, is she?"
"No. If she is, she would've mentioned it before if she was angry about it."
"Well, maybe she just thinks because I nearly died, but doesn't matter." Heaven glanced at the rear mirror for a moment. "Who else is coming?"
"No idea. All I know is all family members will be here unless they are abroad. Then, they couldn't make it."
"I see..." she rocked her head, turning her head to where her husband was.
A subtle smile turned up on her face, placing her hand on top of his hand that was on the gear lever. With the warmth of her palm on top of his hand, Dominic looked back at her.
"Nervous?" he inquired.
"A bit?"
"You'll be fine. You're with me."
"That's why I said it's only a little because I know you're with me." She squeezed his hand mildly. "Basti and Axel too. Still, even if you say I don't need to impress anyone, I don't want to embarrass you."
Dominic chuckled but didn't say anything. No matter what he would say, there was nothing he could do. He focused on driving slowly, parking it on the side, which added to the countless cars that were already polluting the driveway.
When their vehicle stopped, he faced his wife, only to see her checking herself in the mirror. Without a word, he exited the driver's seat and jogged to the passenger seat. Meanwhile, Heaven busily retouched her makeup, jolting when the front passenger seat flew open from the outside.
She turned her head to the person outside, blinking. "How did you get there?" she blurted out, seeing Dominic standing outside.
"Haha. I think you're more nervous than I thought." He only chuckled before offering his hand to escort her out. "Come."
"Goodness." Heaven chortled back, putting back her lipstick in her purse before taking his hand.
Holding each other's hand, the two of them made their way to the old residence. Traditional style and a slight mix of modern architecture heavily influenced Grandma Zhu's residence. On their way to the entrance, they caught a few people going in the same direction. Some were calling Dominic, but the latter pretended not to hear them.
"Don't look at them," he said as he caught Heaven perk up a bit. "They'll trap us in a conversation before we could even get in."
Heaven glanced at his side profile before pursing her lips into a thin line. "Are you thinking you just have to get through tonight?"
"Mhm," he didn't deny it without a second hesitation. "If not for Grandma, I wouldn't even meet them."
"Why?"
"Just because."
"Oh..." Heaven rocked her head, setting her eyes on the people at the main entrance of the mansion.
There, standing by the entrance, were a few servants led by Grandma Zhu's personal butler, Ernie Fu. As usual, Butler Fu was all smiles with his eyes almost squinting into thin curve lines.
"Good evening, Young Master and Young Madam. The old madam has been waiting for the two of you," said Butler Fu as soon as the couple stood in front of him.
"Why are you out here?" asked Dominic monotonously. "You should be beside Grandma at all times, Butler Fu. There's no need to wait out here."
"The Old Madam told me to wait for you here and bring the young madam straight to her."
Dominic frowned but then glanced up as if he thought of something. "Where are they? I'll take her with you."
"I'm afraid you have to separate until dinner, Young Master." Butler Fu chuckled as if he understood something that Heaven hadn't caught up with yet. He faced Heaven, maintaining his welcoming, wide smile.
"Young Madam, the Old Madam told me to take you straight to her," he said before motioning his head toward the entrance. "This way, please."
"Alright." Heaven smiled back subtly before casting Dominic a look. 'Huh? What's with that look?'
Dominic still held her hand as they followed Butler Fu inside the mansion. As soon as the door opened, Heaven involuntarily held her breath as her eyes fell on the people inside the entryway. The crowd all donned a formal suit as if it was a formal party, holding champagne or wines of their choice. Their lively chattering in this reunion gradually halted upon the couple's entrance.
All of them slowly turned their heads in Dominic and Heaven's direction. And she could see how their eyes slide down to the couple's entwined hands before their gazes panned up to their faces.
"Dominic!" After a second of momentary silence, a man's voice pierced the air.
Heaven instinctively turned her head in the voice's direction, but before she could see who the person was, she caught how Dominic's expression died.
"Uhh…" she bit her lips, about to move her gaze, but then Butler Fu spoke.
"Young Madam, this way, please." Butler Fu smiled as Heaven faced him. "Since the Old Madam is not feeling well, the host of tonight's gathering will be the Young Master. Do not fret. You can entertain the guest with him later after greeting the Old Madam."
'Ahh… that's why.'Heaven mentally chuckled at the realization that dawned on her. However, before leaving Dominic, she faced her husband once more. "Darling, I'll go with Butler Fu and greet Grandma."
His eyes fell on his wife, only to say something strange. "Don't look at your back."
"Huh?"
"Nevermind," he sighed, and at the same time, Heaven felt a presence behind them.
"Dom, are you ignoring me?" it was the same voice as the man who called Dominic moments ago.
Heaven didn't turn on her heel to see the person until Dominic slowly turned around. However, the moment she did, her pupils dilated a little.
'Who in the world?' Heaven mentally gasped, assessing the man from head to toe. 'Did my husband have a twin?'
