You look sexy
"Heaven Liu, I will give you the benefit of the doubt and I will stop testing the waters. One last chance to make things right for our son. Whether you are lying right now doesn't matter. As long as you live up to this lie and don't ever get caught because if you do, you'll end up hating me more than you already did."0
Failing was the only fear Heaven had in her previous life.
She knew that failure was never an option; it was never alright, because failure would cost more than her sinful life. This habit also still applied in this new life. Heaven was afraid she would mess things up. Thus, she was careful and would think things through carefully.
Hearing Dominic's last remarks the moment the time hit eight brought this inexplicable motivation to her heart. Even though his aura and his tone changed to a much more intimidating one, she saw it as an opportunity.
A chance.
One last shot to make things right. A chance to claim this life and shape it to how she wanted it to be.
Heaven was thankful, but at the same time, there was this restlessness.
Heaven turned her head while she lay flat on the bed. There, Dominic was already asleep, not moving even a tiny inch. After their heart-to-heart conversation, the two of them enjoyed dinner together in silence. She was too drained to converse with him, unable to pretend their previous discussion didn't have an effect.
'I'll end up hating you more than I already did, huh?' she repeated in her mind, eyes fixed on his side profile. 'Just what you can do for me to hate you? I've seen worse Dominic Zhu. Believe me. I don't think I'd ever hate you.'
As she stared at the man — her husband — Dominic's eyelashes slowly fluttered open. This didn't surprise her, watching him turn his head to look at her squarely.
"You're staring again." His voice was low, almost above a whisper. "Is that how you plan to bother me?"
"Do you hate it?" Heaven rolled to her side, slipping her other hand under the side of the head. "Tell me if you hate it. I'll stop."
Dominic didn't answer and simply held her gaze for a moment. "What are you thinking?"
"I'm thinking about what you said."
"Which one?"
"The last one?"
"I see."
"I was wondering what will you do to make sure I will hate you more than I did in the past." A shallow breath slipped past her nostrils, speaking her mind instead of just watching him fall asleep.
"Scared?"
"Curious," she corrected. "I don't think I'd ever hate you."
"You already did."
"I told you. Back then, it was the devil taking charge of this body, mind, and soul. This body is already under new management."
A soft chuckle escaped his mouth upon hearing her weird answer. He slowly turned to his side, facing her squarely. He propped his knuckles against his temple, eyes still fixed on her.
"Are you saying you don't hate me now?" he asked out of plain curiosity. "If so, that's strange."
"Was it?"
"It makes me wonder just how easy for you to hate someone to death, and then forget about it."
"Does that make me a shallow person?"
"Should I be honest?"
"Your eyes already tell me." She shrugged before she slowly sat upright. "It might be strange, but hating for years and living miserably is tiring. Though I can't blame anyone aside for myself, I realize I haven't lost my power. I still have the power to control myself, my emotions, and probably the course of my life."
Dominic studied her beautiful, bare face. It was the same face as the woman he married, but somehow, she felt like a stranger. She looked different. Probably because of her aura, the look in her eyes, or simply her overall disposition.
"You look sexy," he blurted out, but even after realizing his comment a second later, he didn't try to cover it up. Instead, Dominic waited for what sort of reaction he would get.
Her brows rose, but then the side of her lips turned up. "I don't remember wearing anything sexy," she humored.
"That's not what I mean."
"I know." Heaven winked, telling herself not to pounce on him. Her husband was simply complimenting her change. He had no other intentions than speaking the truth. "Anyway, are you hungry?"
'Hungry?' Dominic glanced at the clock and it was an hour before midnight. "Are you? Call for someone. They'll make you something."
"Everyone is already sleeping or preparing to sleep. It'll be a hassle if I bother them at this hour." Heaven waved dismissively, flinging her legs out of the bed. When she was sitting on the edge of the bed, she looked back at him. "I'll make some midnight snack and maybe watch something. Do you want me to get you anything?"
Dominic blinked ever so tenderly. "I'm fine."
"Are you sure?"
"Mhm…" his eyes slightly narrowed, assessing her raised brows and phoenix eyes. "Do you want me to help?"
"You have an early appointment tomorrow, so it's fine, thanks. I don't want to bother you." Heaven pushed herself out of the bed and then looked back at him again. "I'll just eat something and stay in the theater room. Don't wait for me and rest."
Heaven only offered him a smile before marching away from the bedroom. Meanwhile, Dominic kept his eyes on the shut door even after minutes since she left.
"Is this a way to escape?" he wondered, thinking about the reason for her action. But before he could jump to a conclusion, Dominic sat upright.
Dominic told himself he would stop testing the waters. He gave Heaven a chance to do everything to 'make things right.' Thus, thinking of any negative reasons for her action contradicted his promise. Still, he was curious.
"I think… she did want me to help," he whispered. He set his eyes on the door once again before Dominic decided to follow her to the kitchen.
