[Bonus chapter]The Devil's Prelude

[Minutes before the scream…]2

"Mm." Heaven moaned while stretching her body, turning her head as she opened one of her eyes. "You're still awake?"

As soon as her coarse voice reached Dominic's, he looked back at her and smiled. "I tried sleeping, but I somehow couldn't. Sleep some more."

His brows rose when Heaven dragged her body to sit up. She still looked sleepy, scratching her head.

"Do you need anything?" he asked, curious. 

"Mm. Water." Heaven turned her head to the bedside table at the same time Dominic glanced at it. 

Heaven had a habit of bringing a glass of water at night for the reason she gets very thirsty after rounds of intimate time with him. Though they didn't do anything tonight, the glass was empty. 

"I'll get you a glass," he said, about to put the book away, only to stop when she shook her head. 

"I'll do it." Heaven smiled. "I'm going to the bathroom, anyway."

"Are you sure?"

Her smile stretched wider, nodding. "Mm."

With that being said, Heaven tossed the blanket to the side and then flung her legs out of the bed. She picked up the empty glass, heading straight to the bathroom to take a pee. After that, she went straight back outside the room. Dominic was still reading the book, casting her a glance as she went out. 

A smile turned up on his face, refocusing his attention on the book. Seeing her get a glass of water slightly showed how his wife changed. Back then, Heaven was like a stranger in her own home. She wouldn't even get a glass of water on her own, but now everything was different. 

'She is only getting a glass of water, but why do I feel... relieved?'he wondered to himself, shaking his head at the silly thought. 'I think I'm becoming silly.'

Heaven dragged her feet to the first floor where the kitchen was. She yawned a few times on the way, rubbing her weary eyes. Most of the lights at home were off, but that didn't bother her about reaching her destination. She already familiarized herself with the mansion. Even if she was blindfolded, she could reach her destination without a problem. Therefore, she didn't bother turning the lights on. That would only hurt her eyes. 

Heaven placed the glass back in the sink, getting a new one, which she carried in front of the fridge. She bent over, taking a glass pitcher to pour herself a glass of water. Heaven only filled it halfway, chugging it down in one go.

'That hit the spot,'was what crossed her mind, pouring a bit more to drink. 

After soothing her dry throat, Heaven poured herself another glassful of water to take with her back to the bedroom. Dominic was still awake and he might need to drink water. 

'Don't tell me he couldn't sleep because he had gotten used to our pattern before sleeping?' A giggle slipped past her closed lips, biting her bottom lip as a mischievous idea crossed her mind. 'Should I help him sleep?'

Heaven put the glass of pitcher back into the fridge, holding the glassful of water in her other hand. Her smile was still plastered on her face, only for it to vanish the moment she closed the fridge. Her pupils instantly dilated as her breath hitched, catching a figure standing right behind the door of the refrigerator.

When she turned her head, Heaven instinctively docked her head as the other person swung her arm toward her. 

SPLASH!

The water in Heaven's hand spilled at her abrupt movement, subsequently dropping the glass as her attacker kicked her shoulder. 

"Ah!" Heaven was pushed back at the pain in her shoulder. However, despite the pain that struck her, she jumped back instead of falling. She managed to create distance from the person before her, taking a few steps back, only to wince as she stepped on a piece of glass that was scattered on the floor.

"Who are you?" she asked, narrowing her eyes to see better in the darkness. 

"Heh. You don't remember me?" 

Heaven held her breath the moment the other person spoke. Her eyes went wide as her heart thudded against her chest. Her vision adjusted to the darkness, only to see the attacker's face. 

Andrea was still in the maid's outfit that had some bloodstained from last night's confrontation. Her hair was all over the place, looking a little haggard, which made her appear scarier in the dark. But aside from what she appeared, what was scary about her was how she looked at Heaven with murderous intent.

"Haha…" Andrea's chuckle sounded sinister, assessing Heaven from head to toe. "Weren't you being cocky earlier? Where is that arrogance now, huh?"

Heaven took a careful step back, ignoring the striking pain on her feet. "How did you…" she trailed off as her back felt the counter, stopping her from creating more distance from Andrea. 

"Hehe," Andrea smirked. "I told you, Heaven Liu. You should've killed me when you had the chance, but I guess I overestimated you."

Andrea raised the knife, licking it slightly like a mad person. "Didn't you say I should be grateful that you are not the person to cut me? Well, guess what? It seemed I am not the person who needs to say my prayers."

"You…" Heaven's expression turned grim, feeling the drawers discreetly with her palm to get any weapons she could use against Andrea. She had to buy herself some time. "… hah. Do you think if you kill me like this, you will get the revenge you want?"

"True." Andrea rocked her head, sneering. "But with what happened, who cares? I don't care anymore since I might not get what I wanted."

A menacing glint flickered across her eyes. "Or rather, while I was trapped in the wine cellar, I had a change of plans. I can't only use you to bring him down. To be fair, I think it's much better to kill you, especially now that his wife had changed. Killing you might not affect his reputation, but for sure, losing his beloved wife will definitely scar him for life."
