Day three

Grandma Zhu didn't need to elaborate on why Heaven needed to get Mercy on her side. After all, Mercy, the black panther, was also a member of the Zhu family. 2

It was just as Grandma Zhu said. As long as she was strong, she wanted Heaven to have a solid footing in the family.

Strange as it may sound, taming Mercy was the next step, since Heaven already had the immediate family on her side. Even so, Heaven didn't miss the slight hostility from other relatives from the last family gathering. If not for Silas, they would've targeted her like they used to do.

"Mercy…" Heaven shut the door of the greenhouse in a panic as soon as she heard the growl from the inside.

After that time Grandma Zhu introduced Mercy to her, Heaven took it upon herself should get Mercy's mercy as soon as possible. Three days later, here she was, back in the greenhouse to cajole Mercy into liking her. Things weren't going well for her, though.

"Goodness…" Heaven pouted, looking at the closed entrance to the greenhouse. "I'm not the food! I'm the one who will deliver it! Do you want to die out of hunger?"

She clicked her tongue in annoyance, recalling her previous attempts in the past three days and how she almost became Mercy's lunch on the first day of her mission. If not for Butler Fu, Mercy would've already digested her.

"Why is she so stubborn?" she mumbled, huffing. "Mercy, let's be friends. Come on… don't be like that!"

"Haha…"

Heaven frowned at the sound of a person's laughter, looking back, only to see Butler Fu standing not far away.

"Butler Fu, please don't laugh at me." Her frown deepened, setting her eyes back to the entrance. "I'm trying my best here. I even stopped everything just to befriend her."

Ever since Grandma Zhu's request, Heaven's days and nights only centered on taming the black panther. She would wake up and the first thing she would do once everyone left the manor was go to the greenhouse. Although she never got in all alone, she still stayed outside the greenhouse. Which explained the chair and a small table outside the place.

Heaven would still accompany Grandma Zhu, but their conversations were also about Mercy's likes and dislikes and what it was as a pet.

"Goodness…" Heaven dragged her feet toward the chair nearby, plopping her butt down on it and placing the tray on the table.

"Young Madam, Mercy is a little hostile towards people and it will take time for her to relax around a new person's presence." Butler Fu reminded her as he approached, stopping a few steps from her, hands on his back. "Just be patient and for sure, she will eventually like you."

"What if she doesn't like me?" Heaven deadpanned.

Butler Fu maintained a smile that made his eyes appear like mere slits. "The only way for her to not like you is if you give up. Do you have plans to give up?"

"Never in a million years." Heaven sighed deeply, turning her head at the entrance. "Butler Fu, can you bring my knitting kits here? I will probably knit here."

"I'll get them for you." Butler Fu nodded mildly before approaching her to pick up the tray. " But I have to feed her first."

Watching Butler Fu pick up the tray and unhesitatingly walk toward the greenhouse, her frown turned uglier.

"How nice would it be for him to come in and out of this place?" she mumbled to herself, watching Butler Fu enter the greenhouse.

Butler Fu had always been around her more often than ever since Grandma Zhu introduced Mercy to her. She wasn't worried, though, since Bear was lingering around Grandma Zhu for her safety. It was more like an exchange of guards at this point. However, Butler Fu was around her to make sure Mercy wouldn't eat her alive.

Minutes later, Butler Fu came out of the greenhouse. The food on the tray was gone. Not even a crumb was left.

"Goodness. Look at her. She's so hungry, but wouldn't even let me serve her food." Heaven couldn't help but feel spiteful and disappointed at Mercy, warranting a laugh from Butler Fu.

"I'll take these back and bring your kits," he said, earning a nonchalant nod from her.

"I'll keep her company for a while." She sighed. "Don't worry, Butler Fu. I won't go inside and get myself and my baby to become her dessert. I'm quite sweet, so I'm sure I fit the category."

Butler Fu chuckled once again but didn't prolong the conversation as he left to get her knitting kits. Meanwhile, Heaven stayed seated with her eyes on the greenhouse.

"Mercy, do you know this isn't good for the baby?" she spoke, sensing that Mercy was nearby. "If you're harsh on me, then you're also being harsh to my baby. Do you know how painful that was for me as a mother?"

Heaven pouted as she exercised maximum patience. Even though she could barely approach Mercy without risking her life, she would usually stay outside the greenhouse to talk to the black panther. At least, in this way, she thought Mercy would get used to her voice and presence. Moreover, Heaven was enjoying this side quest more than she expected. Even though it could be a little disappointing.

"I know you want to protect Grandma and the family…" she continued, pausing for a while as she hummed. "The feeling is mutual, you know? I want to protect this family more than anything. It's my life's goal at this point."

Heaven leaned back comfortably, gazing up and thanking the tree that was shielding her from the heat. "If you and I joined forces, then no one can touch them. I can look after you as well. Just think about it."

Silence followed her remarks, making her sigh deeply. She set her eyes back to the greenhouse, smacking her lips.

'At this point, I don't know if I'm making progress,'she thought before shaking her head to get rid of the thought. "No, no. Bad thought. I should be patient. It's only been three days since I started. Compared to some year-long mission I had in the past, this is nothing."

With that being said, Heaven stayed outside the greenhouse until Butler Fu returned with her knitting kits. She then spent another day knitting outside the greenhouse, talking loudly in hopes the beast inside the greenhouse was listening.
