Tian Tian craned her neck to look at the screen and made a face. "Bad luck!"
The screen displayed "Sweetheart" – my contact name for Xu Ningyu.
"Baby? Where are you?"
I checked the time. It was 8:30 PM. Normally, I'd be home, dinner cooked, waiting for him to get off work.
Tian Tian pouted beside me. I playfully smacked her arm.
"Sorry, hubby. Tian Tian had an emergency, I came to help."
"Probably won't be back for a few days."
Hearing I wasn't coming back, Xu Ningyu's voice suddenly rose an octave. "You're not coming back? What about the house?"
"The mortgage payment is due in a couple of days, baby!"
Xu Ningyu's reaction was exactly as expected. After all, he'd spent his entire month's salary buying a bag for his mistress, Yuan Jing.
In the previous life after the outbreak, I learned about it from Yuan Jing's taunts.
"Can't you even wait a few days?"
Xu Ningyu tried to say more, but I hung up first.
I turned on the projector, connecting it to the camera feed from home. We saw Xu Ningyu angrily throw his phone onto the sofa.
Yuan Jing, beside him, placed a water glass on the coffee table and draped her hands over his shoulders. "It's okay, Ningyu Ge. That woman can't live without you anyway."
"When she comes back in a couple of days and pays, we can be together openly!"
Xu Ningyu hugged the woman leaning into his chest, his voice venomous: "That bitch. As soon as I get the money, I'm dumping her."
"An orphan. If I didn't give her some attention, who else would bother with her?"
Xu Ningyu's hands started moving aggressively. Yuan Jing let out a soft moan against his chest.
Then, the images on the big screen became increasingly obscene. Tian Tian watched, clicking her tongue in disgust.
Seeing those two pale figures rolling together, I felt nothing but numbness.
There were only four days left until the zombie outbreak. I was curious to see how long those two lovebirds could last in the apocalypse.
