Chapter 14​​

On the night of day 25, I sat bundled in the living room during my watch shift, clutching a hot water bottle.

Temperatures had plummeted suddenly. Without wearing a thick coat and wrapping up during the night watch, you’d catch a chill.

The extreme cold even affected the zombies. Their movements within the complex became noticeably sluggish, and their sensitivity to sound diminished drastically.

So when a short, sharp scream pierced the night, few zombies converged on its source.

Something had definitely happened! I carefully cracked open a window and launched a drone towards the sound.

It came from Xu Ningyu and Yuan Jing’s building, but the trouble wasn’t at their apartment. It was on the fifth floor, in a female office worker’s unit.

Blood splattered the windows. The woman lay motionless in her living room, but there were no zombies inside.

Three unexpected figures appeared on the drone feed: Xu Ningyu, Yuan Jing, and Old Li the security guard, all heavily armed.

I suddenly remembered – this woman had been the first to speak up when Old Li requested survivor reports!

Yuan Jing and Old Li ransacked the woman’s apartment while Xu Ningyu efficiently dismembered the body, then dragged it towards the window.

I quickly maneuvered the drone higher and further away just as Xu Ningyu opened the window and flung the corpse down.

The sound of the impact drew nearby zombies. They swarmed the already mangled remains, stripping the bones clean.

My hands trembled uncontrollably. The survivor count had been a trap from the start. They were using it to pinpoint the living and rob them!
