Only after Xu Ningyu and his group left the woman’s apartment did I retrieve my drone.
A small note was tied to its tail: "Thanks for your kindness!" It was in Xu Ningyu’s handwriting.
Thinking of the brutally murdered woman and child, the words felt like a cruel mockery.
But now, a bigger problem loomed.
Xu Ningyu’s little performance today was clearly about finding his next target. While he hadn’t discovered Tian Tian and me, the residents on the upper floor of our building were exposed.
If he targeted them, he would inevitably pass our floor.
If he saw the lock on our stairwell gate intact, with no sign of zombies or struggle, he’d know for sure that Tian Tian and I were still alive.
Tian Tian clearly realized this too. "What do we do, Jiajia? They’ll definitely come for our supplies!"
I stayed silent. They would strike tomorrow. We had very little time.
Perhaps due to the weather, the number of zombies in the complex had dwindled significantly. Where they’d wandered off to, I didn’t know.
This only made things easier for Xu Ningyu and his gang, putting us at an even greater disadvantage.
