Those who survive have luck on their side.
I believed that now.
The survivors in the cargo hold pulled them up into the truck.
Zhao Kai drove the truck, plowing through and sending zombies flying, uncaring how many he hit.
Exiting the parking garage, a few leaping zombies clinging to the roof of the cargo hold were knocked off by the height barrier.
The truck drove straight back into the supermarket, sped through the open outdoor goods section, and screeched to a halt in front of the office area entrance.
The plump man and Ruan Tingting launched a fresh drone, once again drawing away the zombie horde.
We jumped out quickly. The scene inside the cargo hold made us delirious with excitement.
It was packed full of food and water!
This truck… it was the water delivery truck for the offices.
A young security guard and the older water delivery driver had been living inside. They sadly explained they were the only two left on Level B1.
However, Zhao Kai suddenly twisted the young guard's neck, snapping it.
The water delivery driver panicked, trying to flee. Zhao Kai swept his leg out, tripping him. Another crack echoed.
I couldn't describe the mix of emotions churning inside me at that moment.
Anger? Sorrow? Shock? Fear?
Dusk was falling. No time to dwell.
The five of us worked together, stacking water barrels and food outside the General Management Office door. Several mutated zombies, attracted by the commotion, had already gotten inside. Four or five were feasting voraciously on the two dead bodies.
One zombie stood apart, its gaze fixed intently on us perched high on the shelves, coiled and ready to spring.
Zhao Kai was right beside me to the left. As he reached up to climb higher, I pulled out my stun baton and jabbed it hard into his abdomen.
ZAP! ZAP! ZAP!
Electric arcs crackled. He convulsed violently and plummeted straight to the floor.
Blood gushed from the back of his skull. His eyes fixed on me with terrifying intensity: "You... ruthless... bitch."
Before he could finish, zombies pounced on him.
I'd said it before: Zhao Kai was the strongest, the one with the best chance of survival.
But he was too treacherous, too vicious. He was our greatest threat.
