Mi Wei did not quite catch Shangguan Hou's drift immediately. He paused for a couple of seconds before he tilted his head sideways and looked over.1

A young woman sitting with her eyes closed came into sight. Her head was covered by her hoodie and some stray hair was on her face, but he could clearly see that she was gorgeous.

Mi Wei contemplated as he looked at Huo Yao. After some time, his eyes suddenly lit up knowingly. He veered his eyes and looked straight at Shangguan Hou.

Shangguan Hou just mentioned that the family had desperately tried to save her, so it must be Shangguan Yu.

Mi Wei tightened his fists as they lay beside him. He muttered in disbelief. "Is it… Is it her?"

Shangguan Hou crossed his legs and leaned into the seat backrest gently and answered Mi Wei. "It's Shangguan Yu."

"No! That's impossible!" Mi Wei looked pale and his mouth was dry. His lips trembled as he said, "I told you. She is already dead. How could she be her? It's impossible!"

Shangguan Hou simply glanced at Mi Wei and smiled calmly. "Stop acting already. She has already admitted it herself."

Did Mi Wei think he could save Shangguan Yu just by denying the fact it was her?

He was simply naive.

Shangguan Hou shook his head and replied nonchalantly. "You should thank me for letting you see her."

Mi Wei tightened his fists even harder. He could not believe his ears, but he could tell from the look in Shangguan Hou's eyes that he was serious.

It was genuinely Shangguan Yu.

Mi Wei felt delighted, but he was equally worried.

He knew what would happen to her now that she had fallen into the hands of the family traitor. Mi Wei inhaled deeply and asked. "What have you done to her?"

Shangguan Hou rapped his fingers on his knee. Since Mi Wei had stopped acting dumb about Huo Yao's identity, he spoke candidly. "I injected some drugs into her system to make her lose consciousness for the time being."

"Just let her go. Take me instead. You can do anything you want to me." Mi Wei looked at Shangguan Hou and told him. His cool stubborn attitude was gone and he spoke in an imploring tone.

He was already an old man, but Shangguan Yu was still very young, so he could not bear the thought of turning her into a subject of research.

Shangguan Hou looked at Mi Wei as though he were an idiot. "Do you think I would let her go?"

Shangguan Hou was bent on taking her back to the base, so he spared no effort. Her keen knowledge of advanced technology far beyond these times was enough to make him go to such lengths.

"I only managed to get my hands on her thanks to you." Shangguan Hou nodded. He responded airily. "I might consider letting you die with dignity when we get back to base."

Mi Wei opened his eyes wide in shock.

"Let me make things clear. I didn't bring this upon Shangguan Yu. You did this to her," said Shangguan Hou.

The moment he heard what Shangguan Hou said, Mi Wei felt as though his blood had frozen and he was desperately cold.

Mi Wei's face turned ghastly pale with his arms beside him. He did not even have the strength to raise his hands.

Even though Shangguan Hou did not go into detail regarding his deeds, Mi Wei could already imagine what Shangguan Hou had done. She was captured because of him.

When Shangguan Hou saw the guilty look on Mi Wei's face, he smiled smugly.

The family might have lived cut off from outsiders, but it was not an entire loss. This made Mi Wei very innocent by nature, so he promptly felt guilty about Shangguan Yu's situation.

Shangguan Hou lapped up Mi Wei's reactions with a great sense of satisfaction, but he failed to notice Huo Yao in the corner. She had previously passed out and was sitting there unconscious, but her eyes were open now.
