I'll wait for him

The next day, Qin Yan thought of visiting Xi Ting's office after her classes.1

Before she got into the cab, Qin Yan texted Xi Ting: [I am done with my classes and now coming to your office to visit you.]

Xi Ting replied immediately: [Wait there, I'll get Xi Jiu to fetch you.]

Qin Yan gave the cab driver the address and then replied: [No need, I'm already in a cab. It's less than 20 minutes to get to your place, it's alright.]

Xi Ting didn't insist. [Alright, I'll get Tong Chunian to wait for you in the lobby, then. I'm rather busy in the afternoon. I've got two meetings, so I won't be able to accompany you. You can rest in my office while waiting.]

Qin Yan responded: [Mm, I got it.]

Xi Ting: [Do you crave anything? I can get someone to prepare it. Fruits? Cake? Ice-cream? There aren't any snacks in the office pantry right now.]

These were just common day-to-day talk. But Qin Yan felt especially warm and fuzzy. It was probably the kind of sweetness that came from realizing that the other party was so thoughtful even about the little things.

Qin Yan smiled and thought for a while before sending Xi Ting a voice message: [You don't have to get it prepared for me. I'll go to the bakery to get a cake later. I know of one with really good cakes. Do you want some? I'll get it for you too.]

Xi Ting didn't reply for a while. Qin Yan didn't send another message as she guessed that he must be busy. She was going to get two servings whether or not he wanted it. If he didn't want it, she would just finish it on her own.

Just as Qin Yan thought that Xi Ting was off for a meeting, she heard a "ding" coming from her cell phone. He had replied.

[I don't want to eat cake. I want to eat you. Can I?]

Reading the message, an intimate image immediately popped up in Qin Yan's head. Just the thought of it was enough to get her blushing. She held her cheeks and decided not to reply to him anymore.

The woman was tall and slim and wore a branded black dress. She had on bright red stilettos and appeared extremely glamorous in the way she strutted. Soon, that black figure disappeared into the building.

Nei Mianmian saw Tong Chunian the moment she entered. She was rather happy to see him there and took the initiative to greet him, "Personal Assistant Tong, what are you doing here? Are you… here to receive someone?"

Tong Chunian was actually at the lobby waiting for Qin Yan. But he didn't expect Nei Mianmian to arrive first.

But she was proven wrong very quickly. This was rather embarrassing.

But as the Miss of the Nie family, she had to maintain her elegance at all times. She recovered a smile soon enough and said, "I'm here to see Ah Ting. Is he busy now?"

Nie Mianmian had come to the Xi Corporation before. Back then, Xi Ting wasn't the Chairman yet. And she was the only woman to ever be seen around him.

Tong Chunian knew that the Nie and Xi families were on good terms, and Nie Mianmian was rather close to Xi Ting too. He didn't find it strange for her to be looking for Xi Ting.

He nodded. "Chairman Xi is in a meeting. Does Miss Nie have something important to talk to Chairman Xi about?"

"It's nothing much," Nie Mianmian bit her lip and furrowed her brows a little. She seemed rather bothered by something and kept quiet for a moment before letting out a sigh, "I had some misunderstanding with Ah Ting a while ago, and he's still angry with me. I felt there's a need to talk to him in person, so here I am. Since he's in a meeting, I'll wait for him in his office."

Tong Chunian was just about to nod and take her upstairs when he suddenly recalled that he hadn't received Qin Yan yet.

"Uh, Miss Nie," He glanced at his watch, and then at the entrance. He then said apologetically, "Why don't you come another day? Chairman Xi is very busy today, he won't have time for the rest of the afternoon. If Miss Nie wants to wait for him, it'll be a very long wait."

Tong Chunian knew that Qin Yan was coming. It wouldn't be nice for Nie Mianmian to be sitting in Xi Ting's office.

Although Miss Nie and Chairman Xi were just friends, she was once the only woman who could get close to him, after all. Just that alone was something that lady boss might take an issue with.

Women were all petty. Moreover, he'd been by Chairman Xi's side for several years. He was sure that Chairman Xi simply treated Miss Nie as a friend.

But on Miss Nie's end… it might not be the case. Women were hard to read. If Miss Nie really had other interests in Chairman Xi, she wouldn't be happy to see the lady boss.

What if something happened while Chairman Xi wasn't around? What was he to do?

She smiled and said, "I'll just keep waiting, then. He'll surely knock off today, right?"

Nie Mianmian had decided to meet Xi Ting today at any cost as she wanted to appease Xi Ting when he was alone.

Tong Chunian: "...Miss Nie."

"Don't worry, I won't affect his work," Nie Mianmian smiled sweetly, "It's not as if I haven't waited for him before. He used to leave me on my own for hours when he was busy, and I'd just occupy myself."

Tong Chunian nodded.

He was about to say that he was waiting for Qin Yan when Nie Mianmian smiled and said thoughtfully, "In that case, I'll just go up on my own. I shan't bother you at work."

Nie Mianmian patted him on the shoulder lightly and then strutted off. A sweet scent drifted around Tong Chunian. It didn't dissipate for a while. He couldn't identify what scent it was, but it was rather seductive. Tong Chunian was dazed.

By the time he turned around, he saw that Nie Mianmian was already in the lobby waiting for the elevator. He felt a little threatened on Qin Yan's behalf.

Miss Nie was really beautiful. And she was elegant, too. She was also a gifted student who studied in an overseas elite school. If she really liked Chairman Xi, the lady boss would be facing a strong rival.

Although the lady boss was also very beautiful and wasn't inferior to Miss Nie in terms of looks, she missed out on many other aspects.

The Nie family was too many times better than the Qin family. Even at their peak, the Qin family wasn't in the same league as the Nies.
